C heck out this large flake nugget from the Australian goldfields. M y source tells me it was found in the eastern part of Australia close by Ballarat, home to the earths largest recorded gold nugget, The Welcome Stranger.
Well, this nugget in no way rivals that monster, but as nuggets go, it's a unique character. The gold itself is a brilliant golden in color and seems almost sculpted; bound to liven up your nugget collection. I guarantee the gold is a natural occurrence. All my specimens show visible gold and are authentic gold nuggets or gold quartz specimens. Contact me indicating you wish to return the item.
I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold. Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many vein systems sourcing the immense placer deposits of the Sierra Nevada Mtns, the famed Mother Lode. 15.43 GRAINS = 1 GRAM. 31.103 GRAMS = 1 TROY OUNCE.24 GRAINS = 1 PENNYWEIGHT (DWT). 20 DWT = 1 TROY OUNCE. 480 GRAINS = 1 TROY OUNCE. One day, while drywashing an untested gulch on the SOUTH 40, the name of our 600 acre claim group myself and two partners had staked out, I hit a nice pocket of placer in a stretch of unworked old channel. It had been a long trek back into the boonies on foot packing a drywasher on my back, so I was pretty excited by the discovery. Taking my concentrates back to camp, one of my partner's kids and I panned out about 3/4 oz.
This second partner had taken it upon himself to form a new alliance with a heavy equipment operator. They proceeded to cut a new cat trail right smack dab down the middle of my newly-discovered wash with a D8 Cat. In the process, they rearranged the entire topography of the wash.
Well, if you know anything about prospecting for placer, you'll understand what effect this had on terrain-oriented sampling. Since cat-work had so dramatically altered the contours of the land, it was no longer possible to read the pre-existing formations. In these remote diggins, amongst a claim group encompassing roughly 6000 acres, my partner, his family, and newfound associate were having a field day extending my hole in different directions as they futilely searched for the paystreak.
There was one very large D8 Cat and two other vehicles parked nearby my hole. The road made it all very convenient for them to jump in my hole, you see.
It's always so nice to be consulted about these things, isn't it? My partner had somehow conveniently forgotten who made the discovery. It wasn't the first time he had pulled this stunt on me, so what, really, should I have expected? Ironically, they found about enough gold to fill a gnat's eye.
I call it lucky to find out what kind of partner I had at this early stage of our association. Thanks for checking out our digs. G old of E ldorado 8-13-17.
