NATIVE GOLD from CALIFORNIA R uler is 1/4 wide (6 mm). 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter.

S pecimen weight: 21.7 G rains (Troy) - 1.41 G ram. S ize: 8.8X6.2X3.8 mm. C heck out this luscious, golden chunk from the California hills. If you're a bullion-hunter looking for super bargains, this might not be the gold for you, but for those who enjoy storied gold and the elemental beauty of gold, you'll find no prettier nugget. It's time I passed it on to someone with eyes for the prize.

A good friend of mine dug up t his plump chunk weighing 21.7 grains, that's on the Troy scale. According to my source, this n ugget was found on his claim in the southern Mother Lode country. These smoother, character pieces of natural gold tend to have a sculpted look and can resemble just about anything in nature you might imagine.

As you can see, both sides of this piece are quite shapely. Many years ago,'shooting nuggets' in northern California, I found several character slugs much like this one.

How can natural gold look so good, right? This has received only a light cleaning. I'm sure it wasn't tumbled - a treatment I don't find adds aesthetic at all. Refined, alloyed gold used in jewelry is created using exact science to produce specific, sought-after results. Expect to pay a huge markup for'debased' precious metal products like 14K rings. Gold found in nature is a mineralogical wonder. Each mining district places it's own unique stamp or'natural hallmark' on the specimens created and found there. This extraordinary gold nugget is really a solid piece unadulterated with any quartz or discoloration from iron staining. These'clunkers' are cool and your detector should scream over this little guy. Contact me indicating you wish to return the item. I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold.

Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many vein systems sourcing the immense placer deposits of the Sierra Nevada Mtns, the famed Mother Lode.

15.43 GRAINS = 1 GRAM. 31.103 GRAMS = 1 TROY OUNCE. 24 GRAINS = 1 PENNYWEIGHT (DWT). 20 DWT = 1 TROY OUNCE. 480 GRAINS = 1 TROY OUNCE. We leave no stones un-turned insuring our customers get what they bargained for.

Claim group, I hit a nice pocket of placer in a stretch of un-worked side channel. My two partners in our association had some time ago deduced that I should be the one in the field prospecting; so while they took care of other affairs, I was free to explore our claims for good ground.

It had been a long trek packing my dry-washer back into the boonies. Getting off the beaten path has always been one of my keys to success.

Taking my drywasher concentrates back to camp where our group had it's headquarters, we panned out about 3/4 oz. Seeing good gold for a change, there were plenty of laughs and smiles going around. Emotions in this business have a way of turning on a dime, or, in some cases, a crime. A couple of days later, returning from a logistics run to Yuma, I discovered one of my partners had taken it upon himself to invite a heavy equipment operator with a D8 cat to cut a road right smack dab down the middle of my new-found wash.

In the process, the entire topography of the land had been re-shaped. If you know much about placer prospecting, you understand what effect this has on terrain-oriented sampling. Without formations to read, testing becomes entirely a hit or miss proposition. Since these savvy road-builders had altered the land features so radically, it was now impossible to read the land as it had existed before.

In these remote diggings, amongst a claim group encompassing roughly 6000 acres, this partner, his family, and newfound associate were busily having a field day extending my hole in different directions as they searched for the pay-streak. Hiking down to the digs, I found one very large Caterpillar and two other vehicles parked near my hole. Their road-building exploits had made this expedition all very convenient for them to jump into my hole.

Putting yourself in my shoes, wouldn't you have been just a bit ticked off? Before these escapades, I had actually been looking forward to all of us (excluding this'new partner') working the wash as a team, but this unanticipated new plan of operations had pretty much shattered all prior illusions of trustworthiness. It wasn't the first time this stunt had been pulled on me by that same person, so what, really, should I have expected? Ironically, they found about enough gold to fill a gnat's eye.

I call it lucky at this early stage of our association to find out what kind of partner I had. Thanks for checking out my diggings, but be advised, this is MY HOLE! G old of E ldorado 8-13-17. The item "CALIFORNIA GOLD NUGGET 1.41 GRAM NATURAL GOLD" is in sale since Sunday, February 14, 2021.
