S ize: 14.2X12.8X8.9 mm. C heck out this chunk of white ore from the Sixteen to One Mine in the Sierra Nevada Mtns. A wicked outcrop of yellow gold bursts from the host rock.I guarantee the inclusions of gold are naturally occurring. As is typical with much of the ore produced at this mine, black arsenopyrite accompanies the gold. This specimen gives a very crisp shout on my detector so I suspect more'color' inside.
Though I mainly'mouth mine' these days, back when placer-mining occupied much of my time, the hope was to find a desert wash full of gold quartz like this. Only occasionally did I detect, dry-wash, or dredge up specimens containing quartz, calcite, or carbonaceous matrix. What I do nowadays is acquire native gold specimens through the minerals and mining community and pass them on to other collectors. All my specimens show visible gold and are authentic gold nuggets or gold quartz specimens. Contact me indicating you wish to return the item.
I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold. Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many vein systems sourcing the immense placer deposits of the Sierra Nevada Mtns, the famed Mother Lode. 15.43 GRAINS = 1 GRAM.

HELPING A FRIEND DIG A HOLE. Several years past, a friend from Sioux Falls persuaded me to help him dig a hole.
He seemed convinced that a Spanish treasure lay buried at a site not far from town he had metal detected and I later divined. This was to be the second excavation attempted at this location. We went down five feet, dug a pine-box-sized hole and, as on his first attempt, hit the same impervious rock formation which only heavy equipment or blasting could have broken through.
We stopped, had a bite of lunch, detected and doused our pit as before, then refilled the hole. My buddy decided those tricky Spaniards must have driven a horizontal tunnel in from another portal and the treasure chamber was somewhere below the impenetrable rock formation.I've concluded such stories should have a moral. Even though you don't think anything's buried there, sometimes it's fun just to help a friend dig a hole. Thanks for checking out our digs. G old of E ldorado 8-13-17.
