NATIVE GOLD NUGGET from CALIFORNIA R uler is 1/4 wide (6 mm). 10 cent coin is 17.7 mm in diameter. S pecimen weight: 39 G rains (Troy) - 2.53 G ram. S ize: 20.1X12.4X8 mm. C heck out this big-leafy nugget from the California goldfields.

Thirty-nine grains (Troy) is huge for a specimen of this nature. Along with the fold, some particles of smoky quartz occur. The host rock is tri-color with the larger portion being white. This alters into a more transparent quartz, a bit on the order of rough, uncut diamonds.

Then, it transforms into rock which is decidedly-pink in color. Some people would describe it as rose quartz, but actually, it's not. It's just oxidation-tinted, smoky quartz. M y source says it was found in California. This curvaceous nugget is very golden in color, a good indication of high purity.

You don't very often find nuggets with character like this. The gold seems almost sculpted. Many years ago, I found similar nuggets on one of my Arizona claims, so, when this one became available, I jumped on it. The gold is guaranteed naturally-occurring and, except for a light cleaning, just as found.

All my specimens show visible gold and are authentic gold nuggets or gold quartz specimens. It's one of the more interesting pieces of gold I've seen. If you don't view the personal investment made looking for native gold as added value, well'good luck' getting a premium for gold that you find. Once you've had a chance to look for it, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Nuggets like this don't grow on trees, that's for sure, so don't expect such specimens to be acquired for'spot' or for'melt'.

Refining gold is an exact science producing specific, sought-after results. Furthermore, you can expect to pay a huge markup for'debased', fabricated precious metal products like, for instance, 14K gold rings. Gold found in nature is a mineralogical wonder - infinitely more rare, precious, and esoteric than a gold ring.

Every gold mining district places it's own unique stamp or'natural hallmark' on the specimens found there. Contact me indicating you wish to return the item.

I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold. Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many vein systems sourcing the immense placer deposits of the Sierra Nevada Mtns, the famed Mother Lode. 15.43 GRAINS = 1 GRAM. 31.103 GRAMS = 1 TROY OUNCE. 24 GRAINS = 1 PENNYWEIGHT (DWT). 20 DWT = 1 TROY OUNCE.

480 GRAINS = 1 TROY OUNCE. We leave no stones un-turned insuring our customers get what they bargained for. If you're not satisfied with this item, contact me. D uring my years of mining, I only found one platinum matrix specimen.

I had it cached away in my collection for 15 years never knowing for certain what it was. What made it so curious was the fact that when you dropped it into your gold pan, it rolled so that the heavier, metallic side was always facing downward.

It came from the depths of the Trinity River, California back in the 1980s. Going through black sand concentrates at season's end, I noticed a larger pebble which was unnaturally-heavy. After a long day underwater, thinking I would examine it more-closely at a later date, it was thrown into a bucket of classified black sand. Occasionally, oddities show up in your sluicebox, minerals or artifacts which can't be quickly identified. Meteorites, platinum nuggets, encrusted coins, old buttons, diamonds, bullet casings, lead, et al, hiding in river gravels get sucked up along with everything else.

I had friends dredging the Trinity who recovered 1800s-era gold coins and platinum nuggets up to 1/2 ounce. At the time, I had not realized that I had scored one myself.

Another platinum group mineral native to the area was irridium, a PGM mineral rarity recovered locally as small silvery flakes. Well, it took 15 years to cast out the last doubt about this particular find. This occurred after a client had it lab tested the results of which confirmed my suspicions. It was the real deal, the only platinum nugget I ever recovered from the Trinity River. It was also the only platinum-matrix nugget I have ever seen to this day.

Platinum nuggets, and both Kondyor Massif (Siberian) Platinum nuggets and gold-coated platinum crystals from the same region. The metal in my platinum specimen looked identical to Tullameen Pt nuggets, but none of those specimens had matrix attached. Knowing platinum is associated with Chromite and Olivine, I did visual comparisons with different varieties of Olivine and the matrix on my metallic platinum appeared to be an Olivine aggregate. The broader term, as one Tulameen miner-consultant referred to it, is Dunite which is roughly 90% Olivine.

Some crystals in the mineral complex were dark green, some lighter green in color and smaller in size. Size-wise, this specimen was roughly 1/3 platinum alloy and 2/3 matrix. By weight, the proportions were roughly reversed. Thanks for checking out our digs. G old of E ldorado 8-13-17.
